Salvos Housing opens innovative complex in Brisbane


“It’s like winning the lottery,” said one of the first tenants approved to move into The Salvation Army’s new affordable housing complex in the Brisbane suburb of Chermside. “To have the relief of a roof over our heads is just an amazing feeling and has been so life-changing.”


The Chermside complex is the first of its kind for the Army, according to Derek Brown, Salvo Philanthropy team leader. Funding for the project is from philanthropic donations, with the majority from Cory Charitable Foundation…

Sod-turning brings hope one step closer for Brisbane's homeless


A fresh approach to assisting people experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness in Brisbane began with the turning of the first sod at The Salvation Army's new affordable housing complex at Chermside on Tuesday 29 October.


Twenty-six apartment-style homes will be built on the Gympie Road site – 21 two-bedroom and five three-bedroom – with work expected to be completed by mid to late 2021.

The Cory Charitable Foundation announce the recipient of five million dollar grant


The Trustees thank you for your expression of interest in The Cory Charitable Foundation one-off grant of five million dollars to mark the Foundation's 25th Anniversary.


We were overwhelmed by the response of more than 100 worthy charities.


After careful consideration the Trustees have chosen to partner with The Salvation Army to build a new affordable and social housing complex. The project is to be located in Brisbane and will feature approximately 30 residential apartments.

The Cory Charitable Foundation announces five million dollar grant


Expressions of interest are now being sought by the Cory Charitable Foundation's Trustees for a one-off 5 million dollar grant to mark the Foundation's 25th anniversary.


The grant is to be used for a new building construction or the extension or redevelopment of an existing building and can be added to other funds for a larger development.
